A "major infrastructure upgrade project" aimed at future-proofing Guernsey's gas network has been planned, Guernsey Energy has said.
The project, starting in April and running until early August, involves replacing existing metallic pipelines with more durable plastic pipes.
A spokesperson for Guernsey Energy said this would "improve the resilience of the gas infrastructure while supporting the island's goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050".
The company said the modern pipes would be resistant to corrosion and leaks, and would be able to supply different types of gas in the future, including gas from renewable sources.
Guernsey Energy said it would use a trenchless method to carry out the work where possible to minimise the need for road excavation.
Work has been planned in four phases with traffic management measures in place to ensure safety.
The company spokesperson said: "Temporary closures and restricted access will be required at certain times, and efforts will be made to maintain property access wherever possible."
Richard Beharrell, network operations manager at Guernsey Energy, added: "By using materials that are more durable and environmentally friendly, we are reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the island's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
"We appreciate the community's patience as these necessary improvements are completed over the coming months."
